Best wishes for a happy and healthy 2016 from all of us at Vargevass. It has been a while since the last post, but one can stay tune on happenings at the kennel by following us on Facebook via Vargevass Eveline Karsten.
To summarize happenings of 2015 briefly;
In February, veteran Enok passed away quietly in his sleep at age 15. A very sweet and kind personality who was very much liked by the entire pack. He is missed by all of us.
March 2015 saw a succesful finish of Finnmarksløpet for our team with all 8 dogs finishing the Finnmark 500, winning the Nordic Breed class and placing ‘in the (pocket)money’ by our 15th place overall. Most rewarding though was being granted the Best Dog Care Award. Guess the musher has not done too many mistakes, though being a rookie in this race. This could only be achieved because the dogs were doing GREAT!
In July 2015 Finnmarksløpet finisher Molly had a litter of 5 females and 1 male by Pamuk av Vargevass. The intention was to keep the only male, but being so content with the entire litter and having difficulties to decide we have now half the litter left at almost 6 months of age.
In August our training started. Focus for the 2016 season Polar Distans 300, being WSA European Championship (purebred organization only) and probably one or two more 300 km. races.
With the start of the training season our smallest male Lorentz left us for a little team in Italy where he is running lead now.
With the start of January four of our main team members left our team for new work places. Rohn left us for a family in Norway, both Finnmarksløpet finishers Kvitten and Voltaire joined a small team in France. And Swedish and Norwegian show champion Vienna will soon see herself in the United Kingdom where we hope she will give birth to a litter of pups in March.
The result is that we have 15 dogs in our 2016 main team of which ALL are candidates for a place on the 12-dog racing team. Herewith a overview of the 15 chosen:
7 females; Molly, Iden, Babe, Kahlo, Pippi, TomPoes, Olive
8 males; Bo, Flapper, Thor, Puak, Erasmus, Pamuk, Abel, Timmie
